More than 500 homes and premises have been affected across Stockport, Tameside and north Manchester. The largest of the three power cuts is affecting Stockport, where Electricity North West says 351 customers are without power.
Some 379 people were affected by a power cut in the Waveney area. The power cut, which affected homes across a large rural area near both Beccles and Lowestoft, was caused when an overhead electricity cable faulted.
Almost 2,000 properties in Bedwirth, including businesses in the town centre, were without power. Businesses in the town centre left without power and were unable to open, with burglar alarms left blaring. Electricity was later restored.
A resident's association in the farming town of Bethal in Mpumalanga has dragged the local Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM) and Eskom to court, claiming that power cuts of up to 20 hours a day are threatening the livelihoods and health of residents.
In Dresden, the power went out on Monday in numerous parts of the city. The cause is currently being researched. A spokeswoman for the city administration also told heise online that most of the electricity was flowing again and that the administration itself was quickly supplied with emergency power.
